HEALTH
TIPS
General
Principle of Weight Control
From The
Whole Kernel, Book 1, pp. 97-100, by Dr. Ede Koenig, Ph.D.
-
Begin
each week with a 24 - 40 hour fast.
-
Hunger
can be made to be experienced on schedule. Be regular.
"Correct" sleep (asleep by midnight) gives one more willpower.
-
Get a
good breakfast. Sample: 1/2 cup of cooked cereal, 2 servings of
fruit, 1 slice of whole grain bread, 1/2 tablespoon of almond butter.
Use no empty calories.
-
Not a
morsel between meals. "Snack foods are generally very high in
refined fat, refined sugars, and refined flours. These are disastrous
for weight control. They are just about all calories with few
nutrients. That is why they are called "Empty calorie
foods". Eating between meals keeps adding more and more calories
to the total daily intake and this lessens desire for good satisfying
food at mealtimes. Between meal snacks also upset the digestive
processes, causing the food to remain up to 15 hours longer than it
should in the stomach.
-
Eat a
good lunch. Sample: About 150 calories of a main dish, 100 calories
of a cooked vegetable, a raw vegetable, less than 100 calories of a
whole grain bread, 1/2 tablespoon of almond butter or substitute 1
ounce nuts if desired.
-
Light
exercise after meals to promote digestion. Never lie down after
meals. Exercise burns off calories, it counteracts stress which is a
strong influence towards overeating. The refreshing supply of oxygen
increases the strength of your will. Exercise increases your basal
metabolic rate. This means you will burn more calories after
exercise, just sitting still, than you would have without exercise.
-
Daily
light to moderate exercise in the amount of one to five hours;
moderate to heavy exercise suppresses the appetite.
-
Avoid
irritants. Anything that irritates the stomach or the nervous system
acts as a stimulant to the appetite -- vinegar, mayonnaise, mustard,
caffeine, alcohol, baking soda, baking powder, spices (black pepper,
cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger).
-
Avoid
crashes, fads. Retrain yourself now in a new lifestyle which you
expect to maintain forever with only minor variation.
-
Drink
plenty of water between meals. Drinking with meals dilutes the
digestive juices, resulting in poor digestion.
